Bezel set engagement rings hold the center stone in a rim of metal instead of prongs, and on 30 October 2026 the six below ran from 931 dollars for an oval at Ouros Jewels to 1,955 dollars for an oval with a bezel and a hidden halo at Rare Carat. The other five are Rare Carat rings priced complete with a lab-grown center stone, starting at 1,290 dollars for a half bezel oval and including a 1,605 dollar emerald cut. The surprise was how little the bezel itself decided the bill: the stone’s shape and the extras around it moved the price more than the rim did. This is six styles with one ring in each, priced on one day, not a ranking of every jeweler.
How we are paid. RingReel earns a commission from Rare Carat through the Awin network, and from Ouros Jewels, when you buy through a link on this page, at no cost to you. Key Takeaways
- The five Rare Carat rings are complete rings in 14K white gold, priced on 30 October 2026 at 1,290 to 1,955 dollars, each with a 1 carat lab-grown center stone graded H color and VS1 clarity. The sixth, from Ouros Jewels, was 931 dollars in 14K gold.
- The setting was between 64% and 78% of each Rare Carat total. The stone was 380 dollars for a 1.03 carat round, 420 dollars for a 1.00 carat emerald cut and 460 dollars for a 1.04 carat oval.
- A bezel did not add a fixed premium. A 1.03 carat round in the Harper bezel cathedral cost 1,410 dollars, 220 dollars more than the same stone in Rare Carat’s six-prong Tradition Cathedral, while the Bella four-prong came in 125 dollars under the Harper.
- GIA says a bezel gives excellent protection for the edges of a stone and lets slightly less light in than prongs. It also says partial bezels balance visibility and protection.
- Platinum was cheaper than 18K gold in one of the three settings whose metals we compared: the Erin setting cost 990 dollars in platinum and 1,100 dollars in 18K white gold.
- None of the Rare Carat pages we read gave a ring-height measurement, and Rare Carat’s resizing page lists no bezel exception. Ask before ordering if you expect a size change.
Bezel Set Engagement Rings Compared
The price column is what each page showed on 30 October 2026 in 14K white gold, or 14K solid gold for the Ouros ring, with the stone named in the Stones column. The five Rare Carat prices are before Rare Carat’s “Black Friday Savings Offer” button, which none of our figures applied. The Ouros figure was a sale price against a listed 1,330 dollars, read in US dollars during a store-wide sale, so check it before you count on it. The center stone differs on purpose: an oval, two rounds and an emerald cut.

How We Chose
- A bezel around the center stone, named by the seller. Each ring’s own page names a bezel for the center stone or, for the Colette, a half bezel. Rings whose description puts the bezels on the side stones, such as the Montero three-stone below, were kept out of the picks.
- Different bezels, not six of the same. One half bezel on an oval turned east-west, one cathedral bezel, one bezel solitaire for an emerald cut, one half bezel with diamonds on the shank, one bezel with a hidden halo, and one silver-to-platinum oval with a hidden halo.
- Complete rings, priced where the page showed them. Each Rare Carat price is the setting plus the stone on the complete-ring page, not the “from” price of a category.
- Rare Carat first, and we say so. Rare Carat’s affiliate program accepted RingReel; Ouros Jewels is the only other jeweler listed. Other stores are not ranked lower, they are simply not listed yet.
- Terms from the sellers’ own pages, read on the day: Rare Carat’s 30-day returns and one free resize in the first year.
Full Bezel, Half Bezel and What the Picks Show
GIA’s guide to ring settings, published on 14 August 2026, separates the bezel types. In a full bezel the metal encircles the entire edge of the stone for maximum protection; in a partial bezel sections of the stone stay exposed. GIA adds that partial bezels “are often used in contemporary designs because they balance visibility and protection”. Our bezel setting guide covers both in full; this section shows how they appear in actual listings.
What the Listings Call Each One
Rare Carat’s own words are the only evidence we have. It names the Erin a “half bezel style solitaire” and the Colette a “half-bezel setting”, and it calls the Avalon a “sculpted bezel” that frames the center diamond. The Harper description says “dainty bezel” on a cathedral solitaire with an “east/west design”, and the Enigma says the center diamond “is set in a refined bezel”. The Harper, Avalon and Enigma pages do not say full or half, so treat those three as unconfirmed until you ask.
Protection and Snagging
GIA writes that “Bezel settings offer excellent protection for the edges of the stone,” and that the smooth edges are less likely to catch on clothing or gloves, which suits people who work with their hands. That is general guidance for the setting type, not a claim about any one ring. If a ring will take daily knocks, our page on engagement rings for nurses shows how that need plays out on the job.
Light
The trade-off is in the same GIA guide: a bezel covers more of the stone’s edge and “allow[s] slightly less light to enter the stone” than prongs. A half bezel gives some of that light back, which is the reasoning behind choosing one. We found no measurement of the difference for any ring on this page.
What a Bezel Costs: Setting, Stone and Metal
On 30 October 2026, Rare Carat showed each price as setting plus stone. Splitting them shows where the money sits.
| Ring | Stone | Stone price | Setting price | Complete ring | Setting share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erin Half Bezel East West | 1.04 ct oval | 460 dollars | 830 dollars | 1,290 dollars | 64% |
| Harper Bezel Cathedral | 1.03 ct round | 380 dollars | 1,030 dollars | 1,410 dollars | 73% |
| Avalon Solitaire Bezel | 1.00 ct emerald cut | 420 dollars | 1,185 dollars | 1,605 dollars | 74% |
| Colette Bezel with Diamond Shank | 1.03 ct round | 380 dollars | 1,335 dollars | 1,715 dollars | 78% |
| Enigma Bezel Hidden Halo | 1.04 ct oval | 460 dollars | 1,495 dollars | 1,955 dollars | 76% |
The Bezel Is Not a Fixed Premium
We set a bezel against prongs by using the same stone. Rare Carat’s complete-ring pages priced a 1.03 carat round, H color, VS1 clarity, at 380 dollars in each of these settings on the same day:
| Setting with a 1.03 ct round lab diamond, 14K white gold | Holds the stone with | Complete ring |
|---|---|---|
| Tradition Cathedral Solitaire (1.8mm) | Six prongs on arches | 1,190 dollars |
| Bella Solitaire | Four prongs on a raised basket | 1,285 dollars |
| Harper Bezel Cathedral | A bezel on a cathedral | 1,410 dollars |
| Colette Bezel with Diamond Shank | A half bezel, diamonds on the shank | 1,715 dollars |
The prong descriptions come from our round solitaire page, where we read both. The Harper cost 220 dollars more than the Tradition Cathedral and 125 dollars more than the Bella. The Colette’s extra 305 dollars over the Harper buys 16 diamonds on the shank, not the bezel. One day and one stone is a snapshot, not a rule, so price your own stone in both.
Metal Moves the Setting More Than the Stone Does
The setting price depends on the metal, and the order is not always the one you would guess. We read the setting pages for three of the picks:
| Setting alone | 14K white gold | 18K white gold | Platinum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Erin Half Bezel East West | 830 dollars | 1,100 dollars | 990 dollars |
| Harper Bezel Cathedral | 1,030 dollars | 1,310 dollars | 1,395 dollars |
| Enigma Bezel Hidden Halo | 1,495 dollars | 1,780 dollars | 2,035 dollars |
Platinum undercut 18K white gold only on the Erin. The same pages also list yellow and rose gold: at 14K the Erin and Harper cost the same in all three colors, and the Enigma costs 10 dollars more in yellow or rose than in white.
A Bigger Stone Barely Touches the Setting
On the Erin, the setting stayed at 830 dollars when the stone grew. A 1.04 carat oval cost 460 dollars and made a 1,290 dollar ring; a 2.02 carat oval cost 1,055 dollars and made a 1,885 dollar ring. That is a doubling of the carat weight for 595 dollars more. If you want a bigger stone, a bezel setting does not put up a barrier. For how lab stone prices climb with weight, see our guide to lab-grown diamond prices by carat.
Oval Bezel Set Engagement Rings
Two of the Rare Carat picks and the Ouros ring are oval bezel set engagement rings, and they show two different ways to wear the shape. The Erin turns the oval sideways across the finger; the Enigma and the Ouros keep it vertical and add a hidden halo.
Oval Bezel Set, East-West: The Erin
Rare Carat describes the Erin as a half bezel solitaire “with an east/west orientation and low profile”. The 1.04 carat oval is the stone that made it 1,290 dollars, and that is the lowest complete-ring price of the five Rare Carat picks. GIA’s oval guide, published on 23 September 2025, describes the bezel as offering “excellent protection while maintaining a sleek, modern look”. Our page on oval engagement rings explains the ratio and how the stone sits on the hand.
Oval Bezel With a Hidden Halo: Enigma and Ouros
A hidden halo puts small diamonds under the center stone, where they show from the side. The Enigma has 34 side diamonds totalling 0.21 carats on a 1.60mm cathedral band, and cost 1,955 dollars with the 1.04 carat oval. The Ouros Oval Lab Diamond Hidden Halo Bezel ring lists a 1.30 carat oval of E-F color and VS clarity, 9.90 by 6.50 by 3.90 mm, with a 0.05 carat total of round diamonds, and cost 931 dollars in 14K gold. The two are not equal: the Ouros stone is a bigger oval at a lower price, the Enigma stone is graded H VS1 with Rare Carat’s cut label, and the Ouros dimensions carry a tolerance of plus or minus 0.10 mm.
The Bow Tie Is the Same With or Without a Bezel
GIA says that in an oval “some degree of bow tie is always present”. A bezel does not change that, and none of the three oval listings assessed it. If you are choosing an oval for its look, ask to see a video of the stone before the bezel is set around it.
Emerald Cut Bezel Engagement Rings
An emerald cut bezel ring is the pairing GIA itself uses when it needs an example. In its settings guide, the only bezel example is an emerald-cut diamond in a full bezel setting.
The Avalon With a 1 Carat Emerald Cut
The Avalon Solitaire Bezel was 1,605 dollars on 30 October 2026 with a 1.00 carat emerald cut lab diamond, H color, VS1 clarity: 1,185 dollars for the 14K white gold setting and 420 dollars for the stone. Rare Carat says “a sculpted bezel frames the center diamond” on a comfort-fit band, and the page shows a width of 2.00mm. That is the widest band among the Rare Carat picks. Our page on emerald cut engagement rings covers the cut, including what GIA says about its corners.
What an Emerald Cut Shows Through the Rim
GIA’s 2016 guide to the emerald cut says its facets “make inclusions more easily visible compared to other diamond cuts” and that its low scintillation makes the diamond’s color “more prominent”. A bezel does not hide either of those, so the report matters more here than the setting.
Emerald Cut Bezel Three-Stone: A Different Idea
The Montero Emerald-Cut Bezel Three-Stone has bezel-set emerald-cut side stones flanking the center. Rare Carat priced it at 1,780 dollars on 30 October 2026 with a 1.00 carat emerald cut lab diamond, H color, VS1 clarity: 1,360 dollars for the 14K white gold setting with 0.50 carats total weight of side stones, and 420 dollars for the center. The description puts the bezels on the side stones, while a feature note on the same page says “clean bezel lines” frame the center stone, so ask how the center is held. That doubt is why it is not one of our picks. Its sizes run only from 4.0 to 8.5.
Matching Wedding Bands
Every Rare Carat page offered a band made to sit beside its ring, with the price shown on 30 October 2026:
| Engagement ring | Matching band offered | Band price | Ring and band together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Erin, 1,290 dollars | Erin Curved Band | 630 dollars | 1,920 dollars |
| Harper, 1,410 dollars | Harper Band (14K white gold) | 515 dollars | 1,925 dollars |
| Avalon, 1,605 dollars | Avalon Classic Wedding Band | 955 dollars | 2,560 dollars |
| Colette, 1,715 dollars | Colette Contoured Pavé Band | 790 dollars | 2,505 dollars |
| Enigma, 1,955 dollars | Bellora Classic Pavé Band | 1,175 dollars | 3,130 dollars |
The totals add the two listed prices before any bundle saving. The band’s metal was stated only for the Harper, so check it before you add one to the cart. A bezel sits level or slightly raised depending on the ring, so the fit of a straight band is not automatic: our guide to wedding bands for bezel set engagement rings explains what clears the rim.
Sizing Before You Order
Rare Carat takes any order back within 30 days of shipment, resizes once for free in the first year, and says items sent in for resizing “aren’t eligible for return”. Its resizing page lists no limit for bezel or special settings, but our bezel setting guide notes that bezels can limit resizing, so ask Rare Carat’s team about your ring before you order. Measure first with our printable ring sizer, and read our Rare Carat review for the rest of the terms.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Bezel Set Engagement Rings a Good Choice?
For many wearers, yes. The rim protects the stone’s edge and has no prongs to catch on fabric, according to GIA. The cost is slightly less light in the stone, and possibly limits on resizing. If you want maximum sparkle over protection, a prong head suits you better.
What Is the Difference Between a Full Bezel and a Half Bezel?
A full bezel surrounds the stone’s whole edge. A half or partial bezel leaves sections open, which GIA says balances visibility and protection. Rare Carat’s Erin and Colette are sold as half bezels. A half bezel lets in more light than a full one, but it also exposes part of the edge.
Does a Bezel Make a Diamond Look Smaller?
We found no measurement that says so. A bezel covers part of the stone’s edge from above, so the visible surface can read a little smaller than the same stone in prongs. GIA says only that a bezel lets slightly less light in. Compare photos of the same stone in both settings.
Can You Resize a Bezel Set Ring?
Often once, but check first. Rare Carat offers one free resize in the first year and lists no bezel exception, but a resized ring cannot be returned. Our bezel guide cites Blue Nile saying bezels can limit resizing, so confirm with the jeweler before you order a size you are unsure of.
Are Bezel Set Rings More Expensive Than Prong Rings?
Not by a fixed amount. The bezel settings in our picks ran from 830 to 1,495 dollars at Rare Carat, with the plainest cheapest and the diamond-set ones dearest. Compare like with like: a hidden halo or diamonds on the shank add more to the bill than the bezel does.
What Does a Hidden Halo Add to a Bezel Ring?
It puts small diamonds beneath the center stone, where they show only from the side. The Enigma lists 34 side diamonds, 0.21 carats in all, across its halo and pavé bridge, and is the dearest Rare Carat pick here. The extra shows in profile rather than from above. Our halo engagement rings page covers the standard kind.
