A princess cut wedding band can mean two things: a band made to sit beside a princess cut engagement ring, or a band set with square princess cut stones. The best wedding bands for princess cut engagement rings are the ones that clear your setting instead of pressing against it: a straight band looks right beside a square stone because its edge runs parallel to the stone’s flat edge, but whether it sits flush is decided by how high the stone is set, not by the shape. If your ring sits low, or carries side stones, a gallery or a hidden halo, a contoured, notched or open band is the honest answer.

Key Takeaways
- Setting height, not the square shape, is the biggest factor in whether a straight wedding band sits flush or leaves a visible gap (Brilliant Earth).
- GIA (2016) names “jewelry items with diamonds worn next to each other” as a common cause of chips. Your band is that object.
- GIA (2017) says a princess cut’s corners “lie close to a cleavage plane”, so the corners are what a band choice protects.
- With Clarity says a gap can cause “discomfort, snagging, or damage to the rings over time”, so fit is a durability question.
- No wedding band page at the seven sellers researched names a princess center stone, so each pairing below is a maker’s fit claim or our own read.
- A band set with square stones in a channel is a different purchase from a plain band: GIA (2026) says pave-set bands are harder to resize, so ask your jeweler about resizing a stone-set row before you buy.

Brilliant Earth Bettina Contour Baguette Lab Diamond Ring (1/4 ct. tw.)

What we like
- Straight-edged baguettes repeat the flat edges of a square stone

- From $1,690 (14K gold) to $1,990 (platinum)
- Material
- 14K or 18K white or yellow gold, 14K rose gold, platinum

Best flat straight band
With Clarity Women's Flat Comfort Fit Band
by With Clarity
Best for: A flat top edge that repeats the straight lines of a square setting.
A plain flat band with a curved inner wall for comfort; the maker makes no claim about sitting flush against an engagement ring.
Illustration of the setting type, not a photo of this ring.
What we like
- A flat profile follows the straight edge of a square stone, which a domed band does not
- Two genuine widths, both published
Keep in mind
- The only curve on the page is inside the band, against the finger
- Sending it for the free resizing forfeits the right to return it, which the seller never says where it advertises both
- Price range
- From $660 (14K, 2mm) to $1,380 (18K, 3mm)
- Material
- 14KT or 18KT white, yellow or rose gold (no platinum)

Best budget straight band
Blue Nile Classic Wedding Ring (2mm)
by Blue Nile
Best for: A high-set square solitaire on a plain shank, at the lowest price here.
A low-profile straight band the maker calls a perfect complement to any white gold engagement ring, and one carrying no cannot-be-resized notice.
Illustration of the setting type, not a photo of this ring.
What we like
- By far the cheapest band in this research, and resizable
- The maker calls it a perfect complement to any white gold engagement ring
Keep in mind
- Straight, so it will gap against a low-set setting, side stones or a hidden halo
- The page data gives a 60-day return window while the returns policy says 30
- Price range
- $196 to $280 (sale and regular price, 14K white gold, 2mm)
- Material
- 14K or 18K white or yellow gold, 14K rose gold, platinum
- Widths
- 2mm (the design is sold at 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7mm as separate items)
- Sizes

Best for a low-set ring
Angara Contoured Comfort Fit Wedding Band for Her
by Angara
Best for: A low-set setting, where a straight band would leave daylight beside the stone.
A plain curved comfort-fit band at 1.5mm or 1.8mm, the slimmest shaped band found across the seven sellers.
Illustration of the setting type, not a photo of this ring.
What we like
- The slimmest curved band found at any of the seven sellers
- Plain metal in two published widths, so nothing competes with the stone
Keep in mind
- At the narrower width it can look lost beside a wide shank
- Sale prices on the check date, and no center stone shape is named
- Price range
- From $737 (14K white gold) to $881 (platinum)
- Material
- 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, platinum
- Widths
- 1.5mm or 1.8mm (selectable)
- Sizes
- 3 to 15 in quarter sizes
- Guarantee
- Lifetime warranty covering cleaning, re-polishing, stone tightening and re-rhodium plating, $35 shipping label per service; one free resizing in the first year, then $50; 30-day returns
Best open band
Angara Two Stone Prong-Set Round Diamond Open Wedding Ring
by Angara
Best for: A setting nothing sits flush against, where an open band steps around the problem.
An open shank leaves space for the head of the engagement ring, so it cannot press on a gallery or a corner prong, though Angara makes no pairing claim.
Illustration of the setting type, not a photo of this ring.
What we like
- The gap at the center means it cannot clash with any stone shape
- Published stone quality: 2 round diamonds, G color, VS2 clarity
Keep in mind
- Angara makes no pairing or fit claim on this page at all
- Only two diamonds, so it adds very little sparkle
- Price range
- From $755 (14K white gold) to $980 (platinum)
- Material
- 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, platinum
- Widths
- 2mm (height 3mm)
- Sizes
- 3 to 15 in quarter sizes
- Guarantee
- Lifetime warranty covering cleaning, re-polishing, stone tightening and re-rhodium plating, $35 per service; one free resizing in the first year, then $50; 30-day returns
Best square-stone sparkle
Blue Nile Curved Baguette and Round Diamond Ring Insert (3/8 ct. tw.)
by Blue Nile
Best for: A buyer sure of their size who wants the stones to echo the center stone.
Baguette cuts match a square center stone, but Blue Nile names no ring shape and states on the page that this ring cannot be resized.
Illustration of the setting type, not a photo of this ring.
What we like
- Baguettes are the natural match for a square or step-cut center
- Seven metals, with the width published
Keep in mind
- The page says it cannot be resized, while the same seller's warranty page promises free resizing and excludes only eternity, tension and alternative-metal rings
- Sizes stop at 9, and the only fit language is the phrase curved ring insert
- Price range
- From $1,230 (14K white gold, 25% sale price; $1,640 regular)
- Material
- 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, platinum
- Widths
- 5.5mm
- Sizes
- 3 to 9 in quarter sizes
- Guarantee
- Limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. This ring cannot be resized, stated on the product page. 30-day returns from the shipment date
What We Left Out
- Bridal sets. Angara’s princess halo set is the only page at the seven sellers naming a princess center stone, and buying it means buying an engagement ring too.
- Larson Jewelers, Rockford Collection and Rare Carat’s shaped range. The first two name no ring shape and sell no shaped band; Rare Carat’s site search does not filter, and those listings publish no width.
How We Chose
- Bands that clear a raised basket rather than press against it.
- A straight and a shaped option, since setting height decides which you need.
- The maker’s own published width, so proportion can be checked before you pay.
- Plain metal for a finger that may change size: GIA says pave bands are harder to resize.
- Warranty and return terms readable before checkout, and no star ratings or review counts.
What a Princess Cut Needs From a Wedding Band
Choosing wedding bands for a princess cut diamond is two questions: whether the band sits against the ring properly, and whether it sits safely against the stone.
The Corners Are the Whole Story
GIA’s 2017 guide is plain: the corners of a princess cut “are more vulnerable to chipping since they lie close to a cleavage plane”, and its 2015 guide adds that the shape has no culet, so the pavilion point is susceptible too. That does not make it a fragile stone. GIA’s framing is that diamond is “very stable and extremely hard, but only somewhat tough”, with the risk specific to points, corners and thin girdles. Which shapes chip belongs to our engagement ring shapes page.
Why the Band Is the Object Next to the Stone
Nobody in this search result connects these two facts. GIA (2016) names two common causes of chips: the girdle or a point striking something hard, and “jewelry items with diamonds worn next to each other”. A wedding band is a hard object with diamonds in it, worn against the engagement ring every day for decades. GIA adds that bent or broken prongs are “a very common cause of chipping”, and one damaged prong leaves the stone insecure. Brilliant Earth puts it from the other side: “poor alignment can lead to unnecessary wear over time.” A band that rubs the basket is not a cosmetic problem.
What GIA Says About Protecting the Corners
GIA names three protective options and no others: four V-shaped prongs, eight prongs with two at each corner (split prongs), or a bezel, which it says “will keep the corners unscathed”. All three belong to the engagement ring’s own setting, which then constrains the band. GIA does not say damage becomes impossible, and neither do we.
Princess Cut Wedding Bands: Square Stones in the Band
Everything above is about the band that sits beside a princess cut ring. Many shoppers who type “princess cut wedding band” want the other thing: a band that carries princess cut stones itself. Modern Gents says a channel setting suits the clean lines and sharp angles of a princess cut, and that eternity bands keep the stones visible from every angle (Modern Gents, undated). The choice is less about looks than about what the band lets you do later.
Channel Set Princess Bands
GIA (2026) says channel settings put stones between “two parallel metal walls” and are “commonly used for wedding bands and accent stones in engagement rings”. Square stones sit edge to edge in that groove, which is why a channel is the usual home for princess cuts in a band. The trade-off is one a plain band does not have. A row of square stones in a channel does not resize the way a smooth ring does: GIA says pave-set bands “can also be more difficult to resize, since adjusting the ring may disturb the small stones”, and a channel row puts stones in the same position. We found no seller that publishes how it resizes a princess channel band, so ask before you order, and read the resizing terms on the product page. A plain band is the safer choice if your finger size is likely to change.
Eternity or Half Eternity
An eternity band carries stones all the way around the finger (Modern Gents, undated). It looks complete, but it leaves no plain stretch of metal to adjust, so the resizing question is sharper than for a half eternity, which keeps stones on the top and plain metal underneath. Our eternity ring guide covers the full-circle versus half-circle choice.
Gold and White Gold Options
White gold and platinum fade behind a white stone, so the row of squares reads as one bright line. Yellow and rose gold frame each stone with a warm edge. The metal also decides how the band wears beside your engagement ring, which our metal section below covers, and our platinum vs white gold page compares the two white options. A vintage princess cut wedding band is mostly a matter of surface detail, such as engraving or milgrain edges, rather than a different structure.
What a Princess Cut Wedding Band Costs
The price depends on the type of band far more than on the stone shape. The tiers below come from product pages we already track, with the date each price was read. The stone-set examples carry round lab-grown diamonds, because we have not confirmed a princess-stone band page, so read the table as the shape of the price ladder, not a quote for square stones.
| Band type | Example | Price range | Read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain metal | Blue Nile Classic Wedding Ring (2mm) | $196 to $280 (sale and regular price, 14K white gold) | 22 October 2026 |
| Plain metal, two widths | With Clarity Women’s Flat Comfort Fit Band | $660 to $1,380 | 22 October 2026 |
| Contoured | Angara Contoured Comfort Fit Wedding Band for Her | $737 to $819 (sale and regular price, 14K white gold) | 22 October 2026 |
| Pave | With Clarity Classic Pave Diamond Wedding Band | $1,490 to $2,190 | 22 October 2026 |
| Channel set | With Clarity Channel Set Diamond Wedding Band | $1,200 to $1,840 | 22 October 2026 |
| Eternity | With Clarity Classic Shared Prong Diamond Eternity Ring | $585 to $2,693 | 22 October 2026 |
The range inside a row comes from metal, width and total carat weight. For more bands in the stone-set tiers, see our diamond wedding bands page, and for shaped bands our curved wedding bands page.
Square Stone, Straight Band: When It Works and When It Doesn’t
Every guide in this search result treats “a straight band suits a princess cut” as a property of the square shape. It is not. The table is what the source supports, and it holds for any wedding band for a square engagement ring, since wedding bands for square rings share the geometry.
| Your engagement ring | Straight band fit | Better choice |
|---|---|---|
| High-set solitaire, plain shank | Usually flush1 | Straight band |
| Low-set or low-profile setting | Often a visible gap1 | Contoured or open band |
| Side stones or a gallery | Often stopped from sitting flush1 | Contoured or open band |
| Hidden halo | Often stopped from sitting flush1 | Notched or custom band2 |
| V-prong or split-prong basket | Depends on the basket; GIA says every princess setting differs | Try both rings together first |
| A straight band anyway, on a low-set ring | Gap | An open band as a bridge1 |
2 sources cited in this table
Setting Height Decides the Fit, Not the Shape
Brilliant Earth names the variable. High-set rings “are elevated enough to allow a straight band to slide neatly alongside the center stone”, while low-set rings, and those with side stones, decorative galleries or hidden halos, “can often prevent a straight band from sitting fully flush”. The square outline is why a straight band looks right. Setting height is why it does or does not sit right. The same jeweler publishes stacking guides for emerald, solitaire, oval, pear and marquise rings and none for princess, checked 11 September 2026.
When a Straight Band Leaves a Gap
The check takes five seconds and nobody prints it: look at your ring from the side, not from above. From above, every princess ring looks like a square a straight band will meet; from the side you see whether the head, a gallery or side stones are in the way. If they are, contoured wedding bands for women are the usual fix, and With Clarity adds that “angular cuts like princess or emerald may require notches for proper alignment”.
A gap is not only a look. With Clarity says a flush design “minimizes friction, protecting the rings from scratches and wear while reducing the accumulation of dirt”.
Contoured, Notched and Open Bands
Brilliant Earth is direct: “for low-set rings, a curved or open band is usually the better bet.” A contour curves away from the center; an open band leaves a gap in the shank, so it cannot clash with a gallery, and it can bridge between the engagement ring and a straight band “without putting pressure on the center setting”. Pressure on the setting is what bends a prong. A notched band is the third option: a divot in the top edge so the rings interlock.
How the Setting Decides the Band

Look at what is holding the stone: the basket is the shape the band has to clear. Settings for princess cut engagement rings vary more than the top view suggests. A kite setting, which VRAI describes as one “where the prongs and corners are arranged in the North, South, East, and West position”, turns the square so a corner runs along the finger and the band no longer meets a parallel line.
V-Prongs and Split Prongs
Whiteflash describes the V-prong, or V-tip, as “an angular design that cradles the center diamond securely in a V-shaped embrace”, suited to stones with pointed corners; round stones, it says, are not. GIA’s alternative is eight prongs, two at each corner. Then the consequence nobody writes: Whiteflash also says these prongs are “slightly wider than traditional prongs”, so the corner footprint your band must clear is wider too. GIA’s bench benchmark warns that “since all princess-cut settings are different, one benchmark may not work for all princess-cut situations”.
Bezel and Partial Bezel
GIA says a bezel “protects the girdle against bumps, bangs and other accidents”, and it leaves a cleaner edge for a band to meet than four prongs do. Our bezel setting guide covers the trade-offs.
Band Styles That Suit a Square Stone

With fit settled, style is a preference. A plain band is the default: an unbroken metal edge repeats the straight line of the stone, and nothing is set into it to disturb when it is resized. A full eternity band leaves no plain metal to work with, so a half eternity is safer for a finger that may change size.
Channel Set and Pave Bands
GIA (2026) describes a channel setting as one where the stones “sit between two parallel metal walls”, and lists channel settings among those “commonly used for wedding bands”. Two parallel walls are a straight-edged object, which is why channel set wedding bands for women read as deliberate beside a square stone, and baguettes repeat the geometry again. The cost, from the same source: “pave-set bands can also be more difficult to resize, since adjusting the ring may disturb the small stones.”
Enhancers, Guards and Open Bands
A wedding ring enhancer for a princess cut frames the ring rather than sitting beside it, and Brilliant Earth lists ring guards, spacer bands and ring jackets as the alternatives to soldering.
Getting the Proportions Right
Band Width in Millimeters
Brilliant Earth’s ring width guide publishes the figures the rest of this search result only gestures at: widths “typically range from 1mm to 8mm”, the most popular women’s wedding band widths are 2mm to 3mm and engagement rings 1.5mm to 2.5mm. Those are one jeweler’s popular ranges, not the correct width for a princess cut. The same guide says a wider band feels tighter at the same ring size, and narrower widths “stack more comfortably”. Our average ring size for women guide covers measuring.
Profile: Flat Band, Rounded Shank
Brilliant Earth: “stacking a flat band against a rounded shank, for example, can create a slight visual disconnect, while two rounded profiles tend to nest more naturally together.” A flat-topped band echoes the flat table and straight edges of a princess cut, but only if the ring’s shank is flat too.
Metal: Match for Wear, Not Just for Color
Matching metals is usually treated as a color question. Brilliant Earth gives the mechanical reason: “different metal types and karat weights wear at different rates, and harder metals can scratch softer ones”, and “platinum is denser than gold and can scratch a gold band over time, regardless of karat”. Mixing metals is a choice rather than a mistake, if you plan for the upkeep. See platinum vs white gold and 14k vs 18k gold.
Halo, Three-Stone and Bridal Set Princess Rings
Wedding bands for princess cut halo rings, and a wedding band for a 3 stone princess cut engagement ring, hit the same obstacle: Brilliant Earth names side stones, galleries and hidden halos as the styles that often stop a straight band sitting flush. A contour, an open band or a notch is the answer.
You do not have to buy both rings at once, though Brilliant Earth says buying them together “can make it easier to ensure a flush fit”, and advises having a jeweler assess the pairing first. Our engagement ring vs wedding ring guide covers what each is for, and our bridal sets page lists matched pairs.
Resizing, Returns and the Trap Between Them
At With Clarity, Rare Carat and Blue Nile, sending a ring back for the free resizing forfeits the right to return it, and all three advertise the two benefits side by side without saying so.
Blue Nile is the only seller in this research that states in writing on a product page that a shaped band cannot be resized; the other five say nothing, which is not the same as yes. It also contradicts itself: its warranty page promises free resizing and excludes only eternity, tension and alternative-metal rings, while several product pages say the ring cannot be resized. Its product data declares a 60-day return window while its returns page says 30 days. Treat 30 as the number.
Should You Solder the Band to the Ring?
Soldering is the standard answer to a band that spins away from the engagement ring, and Brilliant Earth notes it is typically done after the wedding.
What Soldering Fixes
Brilliant Earth describes soldered rings as “two or more rings joined together using a metal alloy known as solder”, which “permanently bonds” them. The gains are alignment and reduced wear: soldering “minimizes friction between rings, which can cause scratches, dents, or even gemstone damage over time”, which is the mechanism this page is about.
What Soldering Costs You Later
Separating soldered rings “can be challenging and potentially damaging to the original pieces”. Resizing becomes “more complex and could incur higher costs”, since the jeweler must separate, resize and re-solder them. And “soldered rings can’t be worn individually”. Stack that on GIA’s point about pave and the bill compounds. No market rate was verified here, so ask your own jeweler.
Which Band Should You Choose?
| What matters most to you | What usually works | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A flush look above all | Contoured or notched band | Angular cuts often need a notch to align1 |
| Keeping the corners safe | A band that clears the basket | V-prongs or a bezel protect the corners (GIA) |
| Sparkle that echoes the stone | Channel set band | Stones sit between two metal walls (GIA) |
| Brilliance, with upkeep | Pave or eternity band | Pave is harder to resize (GIA) |
| Your ring size may change | Plain metal, not pave | Least to disturb when resizing |
| Wearing the band alone | Do not solder | Soldered rings cannot be worn individually2 |
| Rings that spin and misalign | Soldering, after the wedding | It aligns the set and cuts friction2 |
| Mixing metal colors | Match the karat weight | Metals wear at different rates2 |
| Anniversary bands to come | A narrower band | Narrower widths stack better2 |
2 sources cited in this table
A men’s square wedding band is a different search: a square profile, not a pairing band.
If your ring is a different outline, the side-view test is the same but the answer is not. A round solitaire pairs much like a princess and is the easiest of the five, while an oval and a pear reach along the finger into the space a straight band wants, and a halo overhangs its own shank.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Wedding Bands Go With a Princess Cut Engagement Ring?
Straight, contoured, notched and open bands all suit a princess cut engagement ring. Which one yours needs depends on the height of the setting, not on the stone. Plain metal, channel and pave are the usual styles; check your ring from the side first.
What Wedding Band Looks Best With a Princess Cut Solitaire?
A slim plain band usually looks best beside a princess cut solitaire: an unbroken metal edge repeats the stone’s straight line without a second row of sparkle. Set high on a plain shank, it should meet the ring cleanly. Set low, choose a curve instead.
How Much Should a Diamond Wedding Band Cost?
There is no standard price. In the product pages we track, a plain 14K band starts under $300 and diamond-set bands run from about $600 to $2,700 depending on metal and total carat weight. Pave, channel and eternity styles cost more than plain metal, and the stones matter as much as the setting.
What Carat Should a Wedding Band Be?
We found no source that sets a correct carat weight for a wedding band. The diamond-set examples we track run from 1/5 carat total weight on a pave or channel band to 4 carats on an eternity ring (With Clarity). Choose by width, how the band sits beside your ring, and budget.
How Much Is a Princess Cut Diamond Ring?
For the band, a plain band to wear beside a princess ring starts under $300 and a diamond-set band costs more. For a complete princess cut engagement ring, our princess cut engagement rings page lists lab-grown examples from $1,195 to $1,74519.
What Is a Channel Set Wedding Band?
A channel set wedding band holds a row of gemstones in a narrow groove, so they sit between two parallel metal walls, in GIA’s 2026 description. Nothing protrudes above the metal, which is why GIA lists channel settings among those commonly used for wedding bands.
What Is the Best Prong Setting for a Princess Cut Diamond?
GIA names three settings for a princess cut: four V-shaped prongs, eight prongs with two at each corner, called split prongs, or a bezel. All three cover the corners, where this shape is at risk. GIA says they keep the corners unscathed, not that damage is impossible.
What Is a V-Tip Prong Setting on an Engagement Ring?
A V-tip prong, also called a V-prong, is an angular prong that cradles a pointed corner in a V-shaped embrace, in Whiteflash’s words. Notches at the ends form the V, letting the jeweler spread pressure either side of the point. Round stones are not suited to them.
