Halo engagement rings set a ring of small diamonds around the center stone, and a hidden halo tucks that ring underneath it, where it shows from the side rather than from above. Below are five of them, three with a halo you can see from above and two hidden halos, each priced on 2 October 2026 with the same 1 carat round lab diamond, from 1,305 to 1,810 dollars as finished rings. All five come from Rare Carat, which sells one design as a plain solitaire and as a halo, so this page can also show what the halo itself costs.

The Best Halo Engagement Rings, Reviewed

Best overall

Rare Carat Debbie Classic Halo Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Round Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer who wants the classic look: a round diamond framed by a visible halo, with plain metal below it.

Rare Carat says the halo "wraps the center stone, making it look noticeably larger", and the band under it is plain metal, 1.60mm wide.

What we like

  • The lowest-priced visible diamond halo on this page as a finished ring
  • Plain band, so the small stones are only in the halo, which keeps upkeep to one ring of melee
  • A matching Debbie wedding band is offered on the page at $610

Keep in mind

  • The halo stones are graded SI1, F-G, a step below the VS1 center stone
  • The name gives the 1 carat center, not the 1.14 carats of diamond the ring carries in total
  • A resize ends the right to return it, so the size has to be settled first

Best hidden halo under $1,500

Rare Carat Daphne Hidden Halo Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Round Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer who wants a ring that looks like a solitaire from above, with the small diamonds kept for the side view.

Rare Carat says it "reads as a clean pavé classic from above with hidden brilliance below", with pavé that rises like a cathedral toward the center.

What we like

  • The lowest-priced complete ring on this page
  • From above it reads as a solitaire with a pavé band, the look most hidden halo buyers are after
  • A matching Daphne pavé band is offered at $720

Keep in mind

  • The hidden halo does not widen the outline, so the center looks its own size from above
  • Side diamonds in the halo and the band are graded SI1, F-G
  • Pavé on the band adds small stones to check, on top of the hidden halo

Best halo with a pavé band

Rare Carat Bellora Pavé Halo Lab Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Round Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer who wants the most sparkle around the stone and along the band, and accepts the upkeep that comes with it.

Part of a family Rare Carat sells as a solitaire, a hidden halo and a full halo, so the cost of each extra row of stones can be read off the same day.

What we like

  • Halo and band both set with lab diamonds, 54 stones in total
  • The same design is sold as a plain solitaire, so the halo's price is visible: 340 dollars more on the day
  • A matching Bellora pavé band is offered at $990

Keep in mind

  • The most expensive complete ring on this page
  • 54 small stones is the most of the five, and each one is a stone to keep set
  • Side diamonds graded SI1, G-H, below the center stone
Price range
$1,810 complete: $1,415 for the setting and $395 for the 1 ct lab diamond, 14K white gold (checked 2026-10-02)

Most diamond weight around the center

Rare Carat Orbit Halo Split Pavé Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Round Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer who wants the most diamond weight in the setting itself, for a mid-range price.

Rare Carat describes "the center diamond set above a profile halo" with pavé rising along a split band, and lists it under halo settings.

What we like

  • 0.54 carat of side diamonds, the most of the five picks
  • The widest band here at 1.80mm, under a setting carrying 46 stones
  • A matching Orbit pavé curved band is offered at $775

Keep in mind

  • Filed under halo, but the halo is a profile halo seen from the side, so from above it looks closer to a hidden halo
  • The listing does not say where it is made
  • Side diamonds graded SI1, G-H
Price range
$1,545 complete: $1,150 for the setting and $395 for the 1 ct lab diamond, 14K white gold (checked 2026-10-02)

Best hidden halo with a diamond bridge

Rare Carat Sonja Pavé Hidden Halo Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Round Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer who wants detail in the side view, from the bridge to the band, under a center that reads as a solitaire from above.

Rare Carat lists "a diamond bridge, hidden halo, and pavé band", so small stones sit under the head as well as around its base.

What we like

  • Three places for small diamonds in one setting: bridge, hidden halo and band
  • Priced between the two other hidden halo styles on this page
  • A pavé band is offered beside it at $695

Keep in mind

  • The band offered with it is Rare Carat's Universal Pavé Band, not one named for this ring
  • The setting style on the listing reads "Halo" although the name says hidden halo
  • The listing does not say where it is made
Price range
$1,495 complete: $1,100 for the setting and $395 for the 1 ct lab diamond, 14K white gold (checked 2026-10-02)

How We Chose

What the Halo Adds: Carats, Size and Price

A halo changes three numbers on the page: how much diamond the ring carries, how big the stone looks, and what the ring costs. Only two of them can be read off a listing.

Carat Weight: Center Stone Versus Total

Each of the five listings is named after its center stone, “With 1 Carat Round Lab Diamond”, and puts the small stones on their own line with their count and total weight. Add them up and the Debbie carries 1.14 carats of diamond, the Daphne 1.17, the Sonja 1.25, the Bellora 1.28 and the Orbit 1.54. That is clear labeling, and it is the format to look for. A ring sold by its total weight, written “ct. tw.”, counts the halo inside the headline figure, so the center of a “1 ct. tw.” halo ring is smaller than 1 carat. The FTC’s Jewelry Guides say it is “unfair or deceptive to misrepresent the weight of a diamond”; the practical test is whether the listing tells you what the center weighs on its own.

The halo stones are also graded separately. On these five they run from SI1 clarity and F-G or G-H color, a step below the VS1 center, which is normal for stones this small.

Does a Halo Make the Diamond Look Bigger?

GIA, in its 2025 guide to settings that make a diamond look bigger, says that when “a ring of smaller diamonds is artfully placed around a center stone, the center stone can appear to be the size of the halo.” Rare Carat says the same of the Debbie, that its halo makes the center “look noticeably larger.” Neither puts a figure on it, and neither will we. The number that would let you check it, the outer diameter of the halo in millimeters, was not on any of the five listings. GIA adds that a center stone of 0.50 carat or more “works best” in a halo, “because the melee in the halo will enhance it.”

Halo Versus Solitaire: The Price of the Same Design

Rare Carat sells its Bellora design in four versions, which turns the halo’s cost into a measurement rather than a guess. All four were priced on 2 October 2026 in 14K white gold with the same 1 carat lab diamond:

Bellora versionSide diamonds, per listingSettingComplete ringAbove the solitaire
SolitaireNone1,075 dollars1,470 dollars
Hidden Halo16 diamonds, 0.14 carat1,235 dollars1,630 dollars160 dollars
Pavé Hidden Halo44 diamonds, 0.45 carat1,395 dollars1,790 dollars320 dollars
Pavé Halo54 diamonds, 0.28 carat1,415 dollars1,810 dollars340 dollars

The hidden halo adds about 11% to the finished price, the full halo with a pavé band about 23%. Weight and price do not move together: the pavé hidden halo carries more diamond than the full halo for 20 dollars less, because its stones sit along the band rather than around the head.

Hidden Halo Engagement Rings

A hidden halo is the halo moved out of sight. Brilliant Earth, which uses the names “secret halo, under halo, or concealed halo” for it too, describes “a circle of small diamonds set just beneath the center gemstone, around the base of the prongs”, visible “only from the side view.” From above, the ring reads as a solitaire. Rare Carat puts it the same way for the Daphne, which it says “reads as a clean pavé classic from above with hidden brilliance below.”

Halo vs Hidden Halo

The choice comes down to what you want seen from above. A halo frames the stone and, by GIA’s account, can make it look as big as the frame. A hidden halo leaves the outline at the stone’s own width and puts the sparkle in the side view, where you see it when the hand is turned. In price there is little between them at Rare Carat: the cheapest hidden halo setting on 2 October was 795 dollars and the cheapest diamond halo 865.

Height and the Wedding Band

Brilliant Earth notes that a hidden halo “may raise the center diamond slightly higher” to make room for the stones underneath, and that this “can affect how flush a wedding band sits.” It is a may, not a rule, and the listings here give no setting height to check it against. Four of the five pages offer a band made to sit beside the ring. For everything else, our guide to wedding bands for halo rings covers the two checks that decide whether a straight band fits.

Living With a Halo: Upkeep and Resizing

Fingers holding a round halo engagement ring with a pavé band, the small diamonds around the center stone in close focus

A halo puts many small stones on the part of the ring that takes the knocks, and that is where its costs come later.

Small Stones Need Checking

GIA’s 2025 settings guide is direct: “The prongs on halo diamonds tend to wear out faster. Should you go with this style, be sure to have your ring routinely checked by your jeweler.” Its 2026 guide to ring settings adds that a halo “may require more maintenance to ensure the stones remain secure and clean” and “can collect dirt more easily.” Separately, GIA suggests having the prongs on any engagement ring checked every six months. The count matters: the Debbie has 18 small stones, the Bellora Pavé Halo 54. Our guide on how to clean an engagement ring covers what is safe for a ring full of them.

Resizing a Ring Covered in Pavé

With Clarity’s 2024 guide to pavé says “the close pave setting makes resizing the ring difficult.” Difficult is not impossible, and none of the five listings says its setting cannot be resized. Rare Carat resizes a ring once for free in its first year, but its policy says that once a ring is sent in, “it can’t be returned.” The free resize and the 30-day return are one or the other. Measure first with our printable ring sizer, and see our Rare Carat review for the rest of its terms.

Made to Order, Still Returnable

The Debbie, Daphne and Bellora listings say Rare Carat’s goldsmiths “craft your setting, set your diamond, and finish every ring to order”, and all five pages quoted delivery on 15 or 16 October for an order placed on 2 October. Made to order does not remove the 30-day return, which runs from the date the ring ships.

Cheap Halo Engagement Rings: The Floor at Rare Carat

If budget comes first, the lowest prices are in the settings, not the rings. Sorted by price on 2 October 2026, Rare Carat’s halo settings in 14K white gold started here:

SettingHalo, per listingSetting priceWith the 1 carat lab diamond
Theodora Sapphire HaloBlue sapphires; count and weight not stated840 dollars1,235 dollars
Briar Floral Halo12 diamonds, 0.06 carat865 dollars1,260 dollars
Marie Classic Hidden Halo32 lab diamonds, 0.26 carat795 dollars1,190 dollars

Those complete prices assume the same 1 carat stone as the picks above; a smaller center lowers them, and shrinks the stone the halo is there to frame. Our pages on affordable engagement rings and engagement rings under $1,000 price complete rings at lower budgets, and our guide to lab-grown vs natural diamonds explains why every center on this page is lab-grown.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does a Halo Engagement Ring Mean?

It means the center stone is surrounded by a ring of smaller stones. GIA defines the halo style as a prong or bezel set center gemstone “surrounded by a ring of smaller accent stones”. The name describes the arrangement, not a symbol: the frame of small diamonds catches light around the main stone and widens what you see from above.

Is a Halo Ring Outdated?

We found no sales data that tracks halo rings as a share of engagement rings, so any claim that they are in or out is opinion. What can be measured is supply: on 2 October 2026 Rare Carat listed 59 halo settings and 82 hidden halo settings, which is not a range a jeweler keeps for a style nobody buys.

What Is a Hidden Halo Engagement Ring?

It is a ring with the small diamonds set underneath the center stone instead of around it. Brilliant Earth places them just beneath the gemstone, around the base of the prongs, and says they show only from the side. From above, the ring looks like a solitaire, which is why some buyers choose it for a quieter look.

Does a Hidden Halo Make Your Ring Look Bigger?

Not from above. Brilliant Earth says a hidden halo gives sparkle “without altering the top view of the center gem”, so the outline stays the width of the stone itself. GIA’s point about a halo making the stone look as big as the halo applies to a halo set around the stone, where you can see it face-up.

Are Hidden Halos Real Diamonds?

On the rings on this page, yes. Each Rare Carat listing gives the hidden halo stones a count, a total carat weight and diamond grades, such as 26 stones graded SI1 and F-G on the Daphne, and some listings name them lab diamonds. Other jewelers can use other stones, so read the side-stone line before you buy.

Should I Get a Hidden Halo or Not?

Get one if you want the side view to sparkle and the top view to stay simple. Skip it if a flush wedding band matters most: Brilliant Earth says the extra height a hidden halo may add can affect how a band sits. At Rare Carat on 2 October, a hidden halo added 160 dollars to the same Bellora design.
