Marquise engagement rings set a long diamond with a point at each end along the finger, and the setting decides how those two points are held. Below are five settings from Rare Carat, each priced on 2 October 2026 with the same 1 carat marquise lab diamond, from 1,655 dollars for a plain solitaire to 2,985 dollars for a halo. Because the center stone is identical in all five, the gap between them is the setting and nothing else. Read this as five ways to wear one marquise, not a ranking of every jeweler.

The Best Marquise Engagement Rings, Reviewed

Best overall

Rare Carat Windy Solitaire Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Marquise Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer who wants the marquise outline to carry the ring on its own, at the lowest complete price of the five.

Rare Carat describes "a softly rounded band" that "gently tapers toward the center stone", and the page offers it in 1.40mm or 2.5mm.

What we like

  • The lowest complete price on this page with the same 1 carat marquise as the other four
  • Nothing beside the stone, so a straight or curved band can be chosen freely
  • The paired diamond's page gives its measurements and ratio, 10.54 by 5.19mm and 2.03

Keep in mind

  • The listing does not name the prong style at the two points
  • No side stones or halo, so the center diamond carries the whole look
  • The matching band offered is an eternity band, which Rare Carat's policy says cannot be resized after 30 days

Best with marquise side stones

Rare Carat Betty Marquise Lab Diamond Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Marquise Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer who wants the marquise shape repeated in the band rather than a plain shank.

Rare Carat says "marquise lab diamonds sculpt the band, framing the center, with a hidden halo" under the stone.

What we like

  • The only pick where the side stones are marquise too, so the shape reads from every angle
  • A matching Betty Marquise Lab Diamond Band is offered at $660
  • The accent weight can be doubled from .35 to .70 carat on the page

Keep in mind

  • A hidden halo sits under the stone and can stop a straight band from sitting flush
  • Small pointed accents along the band add more tips to look after
  • The listing does not name the prong style at the center stone's points

Best halo

Rare Carat Sue Timeless Halo Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Marquise Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer who wants the most finished, framed look and the extra edge of metal and stones around both points.

Pavé diamonds run up a "subtle split-shank, ascending in a cathedral design towards the halo", in Rare Carat's words.

What we like

  • The halo puts a border of small diamonds around the two points, which GIA says can soften the sharp tips
  • Rare Carat offers a Sue Curved Pavé Band at $635 as its matching band
  • The most visual presence of the five for the same 1 carat center

Keep in mind

  • The most expensive pick: the setting alone costs more than twice the diamond
  • 48 small stones are 48 more settings to have checked over the years
  • The halo's own diamonds are graded G-H and SI1, a step below the center
Price range
$2,985 complete: $2,115 for the setting and $870 for the 1 ct marquise lab diamond, 14K white gold (checked 2026-10-02)

Best vintage-inspired

Rare Carat Carmel Vintage Inspired Lab Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Marquise Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer drawn to the marquise for its old-world look who wants the setting to match.

Rare Carat describes "flowing pavé lab diamond accents and intricate milgrain detailing" on a vintage-inspired silhouette.

What we like

  • The widest band of the five, at 2.10mm to 2.30mm per the listing data
  • Milgrain and scrolled shoulders suit a shape most buyers already link with vintage rings
  • A matching Carmel Lab Band is offered at $895

Keep in mind

  • The widest band of the five, and a wide band tends to feel tighter than a slim one in the same size
  • The matching band costs almost as much as the setting
  • The accent stones are graded SI1-SI2, the lowest clarity on any pick here
Price range

Best three-stone

Rare Carat Marni Petite Three-Stone Engagement Ring With 1 Carat Marquise Lab Diamond

by Rare Carat

Best for: A buyer who wants a little more width across the finger without a halo.

Rare Carat lists "diamond side stones in six-prong settings, elegantly framing the center stone".

What we like

  • Side stones from .12 to .50 carat in total let you set how much the marquise is flanked
  • A Marni Wide Curved Band is offered at $585, the cheapest matching band of the five
  • Six prongs on each side stone, per the listing

Keep in mind

  • The listing gives the side stones' prongs but not the center's
  • Side stones widen the head, which can stop a straight band from sitting flush
  • The listing does not say where the ring is made
Price range
$1,885 complete: $1,015 for the setting and $870 for the 1 ct marquise lab diamond, 14K white gold (checked 2026-10-02)

How We Chose

What a Marquise Setting Has to Do

A marquise asks more of its setting than a round does, for two reasons GIA spells out: the points are fragile, and the long outline shows every flaw in symmetry.

Guard Two Points

GIA’s guide to diamond shapes says the marquise’s “length and pointed tips make it more susceptible to chipping”, and that “marquise points may need V prongs at either end”. For solitaires, the same guide describes “prongs or V-shaped guards at each end to protect the delicate points of the marquise”. A V-prong caps the point instead of gripping beside it.

None of the five Rare Carat listings names the prong style at the points. Each page carries a “Can I change the prongs?” button, but it opens a chat rather than an answer. The product photos are the only evidence on the page, so zoom in on both ends before ordering, or ask in that chat and keep the reply. A bezel is the other way to wrap a point, although GIA says a bezel is harder to make for marquise shapes than for round or oval ones; our bezel setting guide covers the trade-off, and our guide to engagement ring settings covers every other mount.

Check the Ratio and the Symmetry

The marquise in all five picks has a length-to-width ratio of 2.03 on its diamond page, with measurements of 10.54 by 5.19mm, excellent polish and excellent symmetry. The ratio is a matter of taste: the GIA shape guide we read gives no preferred range for the marquise, so a figure near 2 is neither good nor bad on its own. Symmetry is not taste. GIA says “symmetry is especially important for marquise cuts”, because uneven sides or misaligned points are obvious.

The Bow-Tie

GIA describes the bow-tie as “a dark shadow that can appear across the center of some elongated diamonds” and says “a well-cut marquise will minimize this”. The Rare Carat diamond page gives ratio, table, depth and grades, but no line on the bow-tie. A photo or video of the actual stone is the only way to judge it, so look at it face up before you pay.

Lab or Natural

All five picks are priced with a lab-grown center, which keeps a 1 carat marquise under 900 dollars. A natural marquise in the same Windy setting costs several times as much, as the table below shows. Our guide to lab-grown vs natural diamonds explains the difference, and our comparison of IGI vs GIA reports covers the two labs behind these stones.

Marquise vs Round: What the Same Setting Costs

GIA writes that marquise cuts “offer strong value per carat”. We checked what that meant at Rare Carat on 2 October 2026 by putting different stones of about 1 carat into the same Windy solitaire setting, at 785 dollars in 14K white gold:

Center stone in the Windy settingReportMeasurementsStone priceComplete ring
1.00 ct marquise lab diamond, D, VVS1IGI10.54 x 5.19 mm870 dollars1,655 dollars
1.00 ct round lab diamond, D, VVS1IGI6.49 x 6.46 mm600 dollars1,385 dollars
1.01 ct marquise natural diamond, D, VS1GIA9.87 x 5.19 mm3,890 dollars4,675 dollars
1.00 ct round natural diamond, D, VS1IGI6.37 x 6.21 mm3,400 dollars4,185 dollars

In both pairs, the marquise was the more expensive stone: 270 dollars more as a lab diamond and 490 dollars more as a natural one. These are single stones on a single day, the two natural diamonds were graded by different labs, and stone prices move daily, so this is not a rule. It does mean value per carat should be checked against the round at the same grade, not assumed.

Does a Marquise Look Bigger?

A round diamond solitaire held by four prongs above a pavé band, seen from above against glittering bokeh

GIA says the marquise is “often appearing larger than other shapes of the same weight”, and Rare Carat’s marquise page goes further: “Marquise has the largest surface area per carat of any shape”. Rare Carat gives no measurement behind that claim. What the measurements above do show is length: the 1 carat lab marquise runs about 4 millimeters longer than the 1 carat round, and about 1.3 millimeters narrower.

Wedding Bands for a Marquise Engagement Ring

A marquise points along the finger, and Brilliant Earth’s guide to choosing a wedding band says elongated shapes such as oval, marquise and pear “extend further across the finger, which can prevent a straight band from sitting flush”. Every one of the five listings offers a matching band, shown beside the ring on 2 October 2026:

Engagement ringMatching band offeredBand price, 14K white goldRing and band together

Carmel Vintage Inspired, 1,990 dollarsCarmel Lab Band895 dollars2,885 dollars
Marni Petite Three-Stone, 1,885 dollarsMarni Wide Curved Band585 dollars2,470 dollars

The totals are the two listed prices added up, before any saving the page applies at checkout. If you would rather pick a band from another maker, our guide to curved wedding bands covers the dipped and chevron shapes that meet a point, and our guide to engagement ring band styles explains what each shank style does under the stone.

Resizing Before You Commit

Rare Carat resizes a ring once for free in the first year, but its policy says that once something is sent in for resizing, “it can’t be returned”. The same policy says eternity bands “can’t be resized after 30 days”, and the band offered with the Windy is an eternity band. Measure first with our printable ring sizer.

Returns on Made-to-Order Rings

Four of the five listings say Rare Carat’s goldsmiths “craft your setting, set your diamond, and finish every ring to order”, and all five quoted delivery between 9 and 16 October for an order placed on 2 October. Made to order does not remove the right to return: the policy takes any order back within 30 days of the shipment date for a full refund. The clock starts when the ring ships, not when it arrives. Our Rare Carat review looks at those terms in more detail.

Which Marquise Engagement Ring Fits You?

You want the shape repeated along the bandBetty MarquiseSmall marquise diamonds frame the center

The shape also changes how a hand looks. GIA’s guide to ring styles says marquise, oval and pear shapes have a “north-south axis” that “can accentuate the length of the finger”, and our guide to engagement rings for long fingers covers the other side of that choice. To compare the marquise with every other cut, see our guide to engagement ring shapes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Marquise Cut More Expensive?

It was at Rare Carat on 2 October 2026. Set in the same solitaire, a 1 carat D VVS1 lab marquise cost 270 dollars more than a round of the same grades, and a 1.01 carat natural marquise cost 490 dollars more than a natural round. GIA calls the shape strong value per carat, so compare stone by stone.

Why Don’t People Like Marquise Diamonds?

We found no survey that asks buyers why they skip it, but fewer choose it: The Knot’s 2026 study put marquise at 8% of engagement rings. The drawbacks GIA names are practical ones: two tips that are more susceptible to chipping, a possible dark bow-tie across the middle, and uneven halves that are easy to spot.

Do Marquise Diamonds Chip Easily?

The points are the weak spot. GIA says the length and pointed tips make the marquise more susceptible to chipping, and recommends secure settings such as V-prongs at both ends. In a separate article, GIA adds bezels and partial bezels as protection for vulnerable points. Ask the seller how the points are held, because the listings here do not say.

What Wedding Band Goes With a Marquise Engagement Ring?

A band that follows the point, or one sold with the ring. A straight band can leave a gap beside a long stone, so curved and chevron bands are the usual answer. All five rings on this page are offered with a matching band, priced from 585 to 895 dollars on 2 October 2026.

What Length-to-Width Ratio Should a Marquise Have?

We found no authority that sets one. The GIA shape guide we read gives no preferred range for the marquise, so the ratio is a matter of taste: higher is slimmer, lower is wider. The lab marquise priced on this page measures 2.03, and the natural one we compared measures 1.9. Symmetry matters more than the number.
